Think I may have a computer virus - advice please?

Hi, I was trying to download from mininova, an auction bidder, it downloaded and when i clicked the icon to install it vanished and ever since then my laptop hasn't been right, before it it was fast, I could flick between screen and do multiple things without it freezing. Now if I touch the slider button on the laptop to turn volume up the laptop freezes and I have to turn it off, I can't use ctrol %26amp; tab to flick between screens without it freezing, and when it does begin to freeze if watching a film I press to restart it doesn't do it so I need to turn of manually. I have norton anti virus but it doesn't seem to find anything, but something isn;t right with it now. Thanks guys in advance.Think I may have a computer virus - advice please?
Try to restore the system to an earlier point (before you installed it)

Get an AntiSpyware program first.

Google Spyware Doctor.
Could be the program you downloaded is stuck on your main drive disk somewhere, either full or in part. You need to dump this program. You also need to run a bug buster scan. This should at least quaranteen any bug which has got into your laptop.
Did you run virus scan? That is the only way to tell.
Got add/remove and look for mini nova and uninstall it, that has caused the problem, especially when your system was OK before the download.
i am assuming that you are on windows, so you'll have to use a lot of protection. IMHO, reinstall windows and after that, install

1. Antivirus (AVG)

2. Intrusion detector (check google)

3. Spyware (ad-aware i guess)

4. trojan scanner/remover

you can find most of the stuff here

and then get into the habit of taking a backup of your system.
If you have windows XP as operating system i would suggest the following.

1. disconnect from internet/network

2. restart computer in safe mode

3. restore your system to a date before you started this download.

If all seems normal first check your firewall; reconnect to internet/network and update your norton-anti-virus.
i would try to download spybot search and destroy as far as i know i think its free.
try mcafee anvirus or kapersky.. you need to update it first before scanning your computer in Safe Mode. install Ad-Aware SE or Spybot then restart your computer and hit F8 to run Windows in Safemode. Scan your computer for viruses and for spywares.

If this won't fix your problem, you can try the ';system restore'; tool in windows. do not use the windows administrator account. i advice you to use limited account next time.

good luck...
Something is very wrong. It's probably Norton Anti-Virus. Uninstall and see if that fixes the issue. Don't run without Anti-Virus connected to the 'net download AVG Free before you start and get yourself a decent free firewall too: Comodo Personal Firewall is excellent. Norton AV is system resource hungry and flaky. I found using it worse that having a virus.

Add to that it's a consistent bad performer in testing and you have have to wonder 'Norton AV, why?' Ditch it.
Norton Anti-Virus sucks. Try AVG Anti-Virus. You also need to scan for spyware. Try Ad-Aware SE.
spybot seek and destroy the best by far the virus may be in your bios and not in the hdd but spybot gets all bugs like a fine tooth-comb.
