Building my first computer. Advice?

My old computer was a Compaq PresarioS6100NX. Very old.

So I decided it was time to upgrade, I choose to build it myself.

Here are the parts I've picked out so far:

RAIDMAX SMILODON Extreme Black ATX-612WEB 1.0mm SECC Steel ATX Mid Tower Foldout MB Computer Case - Retail

CORSAIR 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800 (PC2 6400) Dual Channel Kit Desktop Memory Model TWIN2X4096-6400C5 - Retail

GIGABYTE GA-E7AUM-DS2H LGA 775 NVIDIA GeForce 9400 HDMI Micro ATX Intel Motherboard - Retail

Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 Kentsfield 2.4GHz LGA 775 Quad-Core Processor Model BX80562Q6600 - Retail

I think the case comes with a 500W power suply. I will be using my old CD/DVD drives, and my old harddrive. This is on a tight budget, and as I can afford more, I will upgrade more, stuff like a video card, better powersupply, harddrive, ect.

Will these parts work together? And will I need to buy any cables?

All the parts above I am ordering from newegg.com.

Am I missing anyting?Building my first computer. Advice?
Pretty good build, but what are you planning to use this computer for?

If you're into gaming at all, you'll improve things greatly by:

1) Replacing the 2.4Ghz quad-core Q6600 with a 3.0Ghz E8400 dual-core

2) Getting a nice video card- GeForce 9800GT or Radeon 4830 at least (I see you're already planning to do that later)

You'll need a copy of Windows to install... the pre-installed copy on your Presario won't work on different hardware.

Your 500W psu is fine, and yes, XP Home supports 4gb of RAM. You'll be able to use roughly 3.5gb, like all 32-bit Windows versions.Building my first computer. Advice?
All those parts are fine, but you should just wait until you can afford the better PSU as soon as you buy it. It would be a waste to just buy the 500W PSU and then just do nothing with it. I would just buy the case alone, and then get this PSU-

This will last you through this build, and you shouldn't have any problems. And don't forget an operating system.
They should work together, but you can never be 100% sure. You are definitely correct in wanting to upgrade the older parts as you can, but as it is it should be a lot better than what you currently have. Being a newer motherboard it will have a new style of connector for hard drives and cd roms, but it will also have a few for the old style like your current ones. The only difference is the new style is faster. The power supply that will come with the case is usually pretty crappy, but it will work for a little while before needing to be replaced.
