I have two questions.
1) Can I configure the system myself and save me an extra $140?
2) Do you think I should just buy a new computer (the Compaq is over 2 years old)
ThanksI need computer advice?
Well the only problem with installing your own is you stand a big chance of corrupting your system. that is the down note but on the up side is you can buy one on Amazon.com and a hard disc to make it compatible.
Personally I would check your hard drive check all of the plugs that go to the hard drive.because if you lose it you are going to lose all files. But knowing compac They have e\no warranty. but check the plugs and wires the best you can(it is pretty difficult) but if you ran the diagnostics which you said you have. I cant give you great or universal answer because HP is sort of a problem but it is a good product. So after check all plugs (to the hard drive) then make your descision. But as O recommend get the part from HP (the producer) and chck i thorogholy so it doesn't happen any more.
WillI need computer advice?
1 you can put the new hardrive in and save the money cause my cousin did that a few time once for him once for me and once for my brother, hell he built a computer from a bunch of crapy computers.
2 only if you think you should.
1Yes 2no
download a live linux cd on a different computer, then burn.
run it on the lap and see what it come up with.
BUT take it to a DIFFERENT geek squad or a DIFFERENT tech to see there opinion (just like a doctor).
With the advances in Technology in the last 2 years, I would be looking at Number 2 for an answer.
You can buy a new hard drive at http://www.newegg.com/ but make sure its the right kind. Also you need a have a OS CD like windows XP or vista whichever one you want. usually it comes with the computer. A hard drive can cost around 40-80 depending how much space you want.
