My computer has the black screen of death, any advice or help?

It appeared a couple of weeks ago, I didn't think it was important until I looked it up on wikipedia here is the link: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Black_Scree鈥?/a> , so should i set up a funeral or what? because right now it just has a blue light/ray on the screen as I type. Should I send it to maintence?

I need help! I love my computer! My computer has the black screen of death, any advice or help?
Yes, you should get it looked at by maintainence. But before that, try starting it up in Safe Mode and/or a Windows Recovery Disc (can be downloaded). Also, you can access your data by booting from a Linux LiveCD. If none of this works, by all means post and tell me.My computer has the black screen of death, any advice or help?
I have a somewhat complicated way to fix it but I don't know that I could explain it well enough for you to do it. You may need to look up the details but you could always install a new hard drive assuming you still have your systems disc. You won't have any of your original stuff you saved but if you can pull this off it will save you a lot of money compaired to buying a new computer or taking it to someplace. It shouldn't cost you more than like $50 to $100 depending on how nice of a hard drive you want. If you have a friend who knows a lot about installing things on computers I would ask him or her to help you.

PS. If you do decide to take it somewhere to fix it don't take it to geek squad. They will over charge you by a lot. That's not to say that best buy is bad, just geek squad. I would suggest someplace more local like a small business owner type place. I hope that helps.
Black screen of death and blue screen of death are similar. This is how to troubleshoot it:

How do I fix the Windows blue screen errors?

Question:

How do I fix the Windows blue screen errors?

Answer:

Before fixing a Microsoft Microsoft Windows blue screen or blue screen of death error (BSoD) you must first identify what type of error it is. Since there are different types of blue screen errors.

Note: If you're getting a blue screen and then your computer immediately reboots without being able to read the text in the blue screen follow the below steps. If you're unable to get into Windows to perform the below steps boot the computer into Safe Mode.

1.From the desktop right-click on My Computer.

2.Click the Properties option.

3.In the System Properties window click the Advanced tab.

4.In Advanced click the Settings button under Startup and Recovery.

5.In the Startup and Recovery window uncheck the Automatically restart check box.

6.Click Ok.

Other blue screen errors

Windows NT, 2000, XP, Vista, and later versions of Windows will have a blue screen error that's similar to the example shown below. Thankfully these error messages often contain more detailed information and will also contain information that can be more easily searched for and found. If you're not getting a blue screen error that looks like the below skip to the next Fatal exception section.

1.Identify the type of blue screen by locating a line containing all capital letters with underscores instead of spaces, such as the above example: BAD_POOL_HEADER. Write this information down.

2.Get either the STOP: error message at the top of the error or in the ';Technical Information:'; portion of the error. For example, in the above error it's STOP: 0x00000019 ... write the first potion of this error message down.

3.Finally, if technical information is shown write down the file and the address.

Once you have the above information you can start troubleshooting the issue.

BAD_POOL_HEADER

DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL

DRIVER_POWER_STATE_FAILURE

INACCESSIBLE_BOOT_DEVICE

IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL

KMODE_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED

NTFS_FILE_SYSTEM

PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA

STATUS_IMAGE_CHECKSUM_MISMATCH

THREAD_STUCK_IN_DEVICE_DRIVER

UNEXPECTED_KERNEL_MODE_TRAP

UNKNOWN_HARD_ERROR

Fatal exceptions

Many of the blue screen error messages you'll encounter with earlier versions of Windows will be fatal exception error messages or Fatal 0E messages. If your blue screen message starts out with A fatal exception 0E ... or An exception ... you're encountering this error. For these blue screen errors we suggest going through the steps on document CH000223. Below is an example of this type of error.
