okay it will be used for music, so it needs a big hard drive. besides that, mostly just internet. so what computer, what operating system, etc. please include price! thanks.I'm going to get a new computer! advice??
Macs hands down. Since you'll be doing mainly music and Internet, Macs are very secure (but get a security suite for Mac just in case) and come with iTunes and Garageband (a music-making application) preinstalled and included.
PC's are a good option (I recommend either Dell or HP), but you can also run Windows on a Mac if you decide to go with a Mac. I hope that helps.
Good luck.I'm going to get a new computer! advice??
Without wanting to play evangelist here ... buy an Intel based MAC.
You will have everything you can possibly need in one machine.
Simply buy the machine that suits your financial means.
I only recently moved from Windows (been there since 3.1 and have been making a living on it since win 95) to a Mac Pro ... I couldn't be happier.
Get a Macbook, simple as that. You shouldn't spend more than $1,250 for a computer with the requirements you need.

That is also a good PC laptop.

Get a mac, Introducing Mac Os X Leopard. Add a mac to your mac with Leopard
Buy a mac mini if you have a Moniter/mouse/keyboard, and an external hard drive
Hi Matt, I agree that a MacBook might serve your needs because they sell with huge hard drives as option and you need a huge hard drive. Plus there's plenty of music software, starting with iTunes, okay, but also GarageBand (part of iLife 08) that will serve you in pursuit of musical perfection. But there's so much more available for the Mac. I hope you don't mind if I try to fill in some details...
The MacBook comes with what Apple calls ';Airport Extreme';, which communicates wirelessly with the Internet from an access point at 54 MB/sec, which is pretty fast, really. IEEE calls this 802.11G, just FYI in case you didn't already know.
The Apple Store features retail and refurbished, I don't know what you're budget is like, most people are responsive to financial constraints, anyway, MacBooks start at $1099 but you might want a bigger screen than 13.3';. MacBook Pros start at $1999 with a 15.4'; LCD. There's even a MacBook Pro with a 17'; LCD.
But the screen on the MacBook is a new design and it's quite lovely, I don't know, it might do...it's really hi-resolution and sharp and clear.
There's a ton of music software available at the Apple Store so if you don't mind a 13.3'; LCD and would rather spend what you saved on the MacBook, you have your Music %26amp; Audio section on the store site. I don't know any more about that so I won't comment any further...
You have music software. The operating system is Mac OS X v10.5 Leopard, it rocks, it's stable, it's reliable, what everybody says, it's true, it's built on UNIX (Berkeley distribution). Rocks.
All for a little more than a grande. I hope I've lead you rightly. Good luck in your search for the Dynabook...
get a mac, in 2 years I have had NO trouble with my macs. Which is good, because the 8 windows machines need some damned thing fixed every blessed day!!!
