My computer was fine before yesterday. I don't know much about them, but I have three computers hooked up on the same 2 wire DSL modem. Two are upstairs, which have wireless antennas. For the main computer, I have line filters hooked up so I don't get bumped off when the phone rings.
Since yesterday afternoon, when a call comes in, my broadband link goes out, and stays out. (it flashes red) until I make a call out... The broadband goes right back on! I don't get it! What is happening, and what can I do to fix this? Thanks so much for your help!!!! :)I really need some computer advice please?
Possibly the filter went bad or wasn't good to start off with. They should had provided you with more than one right?I really need some computer advice please?
DSL filters aren't supposed to go on the computers, they're supposed to go on the phones in the house to prevent them from causing problems with the DSL. there might be a version of DSL that requires it for all connections, but that would be new to me.
I agree that it could be a problem with one of your filters. I would try unplugging all of the phones except for 1 and then calling you number and see if it goes off. If so, change that filter with another filter and try calling and see if it goes out. If you have extra filters go ahead and filter jacks that don't even have a phone plugged into them. Verify that NOTHING else has changed not with the alarm system or other tenants if it is an apartment building. Unfortunately, the next step is really a call to your DSL provider so they can do some tests on the phone line.
call your ISP help desk and they will walk you through the t/s and submit a work order if you have something wrong-such as bad or improper filter. Filters go on the phones not the computers, so you scared me right off!
