I have a computer with dual core processor - can I get some advice?

I've got a new laptop with a dual core processor %26amp; running windows vista - I've been told that vista automatically only runs 1 of the processors %26amp; that you need to activate the 2nd processor...can anyone help by confirming if this is true %26amp; if so give some advice as to how to activate the 2nd processor.

ThanksI have a computer with dual core processor - can I get some advice?
i think it might actually mean it only uses one core and when required the second core comes into play, this is an effective way to save you energy and keep the cpu coolI have a computer with dual core processor - can I get some advice?
Andy is mostly correct. The 2nd core becomes active when the 1st core is 75% utilized. However there is a way to manually activate the 2nd core. Best Buy can do it for a small fee.

You don not need to activate the additional core, what is happening is that most of the software on the market is still configured to run on a single core (dual core is one of the great marketing scams of recent years as most people dont need them or have the software to run them!)

newer software will however use this functionality and will self activate the additional core.
well this is rare but, u can do it in the bios, just look through the settings like 'core 0/1, enabled/disabled'
You have been misled. You do not need to ctivate anything.
No, absolute rubbish: Your laptop's fine
No, tell whoever told you that, that they're stupid.
