Video editing on PC - computer and software advice?

I am setting up to buy a new PC and need to do some basic video editing - mostly editing short clips from a variety of sources - a lot of divex files etc. for teaching purposes.

Given that I am helpless with Mac's, what computer and software would you recommend I get?Video editing on PC - computer and software advice?
well im a video editor

as well as a motion graphics artist and i also edit images

so here is what i recommend

video editing software

I use Adobe premiere pro CS3

or you can use sony vegas

This 2 programs ARE professional video editing programs

computer aspects

I recommen at LEAST 2 Gibs of RAM

Dual Core processor or even better Quad core processor

AMD or Intel

Windows XP---- you could use vista but you might have some problems

A good Graphics Card ---- It really helps to have a good graphic card

And 1 of the most important things

HARD DRIVE SPACE

so get the LARGEST hard drive that you can get

remember

video takes ALOT of space, specially if you work with uncompressed video

so the more you have the better

this are some basic recomendations
