You need to know what type of laptop is preferred at your college. Do they insist on PC's or Mac's first of all.


If Mac then it is easy.


If PC, pick one that is substantial with a good warranty even if you have to pay extra, you don't want to lose everything just before your finals in 3 or 4 years time.
i know that you said dont get a mac, but you should. i have had one my whole life. never used an anti virus program, yet ive never had a virus. always runs fast. internet works great. problems are amazingly easy to fix. you want a 13 inch macbook pro. easy to use. there are many tutorials at apple.com
