Hi, i currently have a vista laptop, (that is not working at the moment). And a xp desktop, i have a harddrive enclosure for my laptop harddrive and i am using it to transfer some stuff, is it possible for me to copy the vista files over so that i can run my xp on vista?
If you are wondering why i want to do this, it is because there are some little bits that i prefer about vista.Computer advice, windows xp, vista?
No you can't simply copy vista over to your desktop and expect it to work. Firstly your license from Microsoft only entitles you to use vista on the laptop, - vista lives and dies with the laptop. Even if you have a vista install disk from your laptop it wouldn't work as the install disk would most likely be customised for the hardware in the laptop and refuse to install. In the unlikely event that you could get it to install you would have problems activating it as it would have already been activated on a another machine.
Even if you tried to boot your desktop with your laptop hard drive it wouldn't work as the hardware vista would be expecting would be different
Sorry the idea is a non-starterComputer advice, windows xp, vista?
I'm not quite understanding what you want to do. What exactly do you want to run on Vista? You can copy all your software/data to your Vista computer and use it there if that's what your asking. Just use a removable hard drive or a crossover cable to copy the data.
I would save all my documents I wanna keep on a External hard drive or DVD R then I would just install XP on my laptop.... XP would make your laptop run faster vista is rubbish really
