Did i give good COMPUTER ADVICE?

a buddy of mine wants to take his computer in for service, but he is concerned cause he looks at a lot of porn stuff ( legal i assume but he is in a very religious, and nosy, community and it would be embarrassing ) i told him once you use ccleaner secure delete ( even just the 3 passes ) it would be damn near impossible for anyone to retrace his browsing steps, true?

i am pretty knowledgeable on computers and while nothing is impossible with today's technology it is very unlikely a pc repair shop would be able to undo what ccleaner destroyed, am i right or what?

can i tell him to rest easy?Did i give good COMPUTER ADVICE?
Well it sounds like you removed all chances of somebody poking around and finding anything. CCleaner does a great job at removing file history and browsing history easily. I would also imagine there are certain legal ramifications, and client information privacy policies that keeps a professional computer service center from talking about, or even looking at, personal files.

I would say to rest easy, if you ran CCleaner, it's taken care of.Did i give good COMPUTER ADVICE?
Well . . . really no data is safe in the long run.

Heaps of stuff can be recovered when erased from a harddrive, the police and army can actually recover a surprising bit from harddrives.

I doubt that the PC repair shop would even attempt to recover data from the hard drive, it is going in there for a service right? So really all they should be doing is making sure the system files are fine, replacing bad parts and so forth.

It's not like your handing the hard drive over to the CSI or stuff like that, its the PC Repair shop so relax!

Note: I am not sure of ccleaner's ability, it could be really good, I don't know. Haven't used it.
Don't worry the computer repair people aren't going to spend hours of their time trying to recover stuff that has been deleted, especially if it has been overwritten 3 times.

And even if they did find any porn they prob won't even care, unless of course it was illegal which would mean they would have to report it.
if this person is worried about things on his computer that was erased. there is a software called software and file Shredder. this is the software that the government use. doesn't cost much to buy. great to have around.
