I just bought a new version of Windows XP for my computer. After I installed it, my internet won't work. It won't set up to how it was even though I have an ethernet connection directly plugged into my computer. I also have reset both connections as well. ALSO, once I installed the new copy of Windows XP, it started running slow when windows were open. I can't move My Documents without it stuttering. It looks like the whole screen is refreshing each time I move it instead of being able to see the window go with the mouse. Every time I scroll down in My Documents browser it won't scroll smoothly. It also ';stutters'; when it scrolls. Please help! I wanted to install a brand new OS so I can have a new computer but it went the completely other way around!!!!I really need computer advice! Please Help!!?
You need to find the motherboard drivers for your system .... XP is only the operating system ... you need the system drivers to tell the other devices such as your Graphics adapter, network card and the like how to play happily with XP ... download a little program called Belarc http://www.belarc.com ... run it on your computer ... that will tell you what the make and model of the Motherboard is (or it should) ... then go to the manufactures website and download the drivers you need for XP ... Good LuckI really need computer advice! Please Help!!?
Although the others are giving good advice about the drivers. Im not going for it. start over, delete your partition reformat (not the quick version) and reinstall your new windows disk. I think the drivers aren't loaded correctly and reinstalling it should do it. Something happened during install.
For the person who thinks XP is old and boring, Vista is stupid and sucks.
Download and install the drivers for your hardware devices.
You will need to install the ethernet drivers from you motherboard CD or download them on another computer and transfer them with a USB drive and install them on yours.
XP is old and boring and has no driver support for newer computers.
internet won't work - because you didn't install the LAN driver
it started running slow when windows were open - because you didn't install the chipset drivers
after you get the NIC drivers go thru and update the chipset drivers as well. This will help the stuttering. You be able to find it on the Mother boards manufactures website.
I'm not sure about the ';my documents'; thing, but your internet is not working because you haven't installed the ethernet drivers from your CPU CD .
did you change a vista computer to xp?
You say you bought a new version of XP. You didn't say what you had before. I hope that the XP you bought is a standalone version and not an upgrade version. You would only buy an upgrade version if you were going from XP Home to XP Pro. If it is a standalone version then I would re-install it and make sure that you delete any and all partitions that exist on the drive. Next make sure you choose NTFS and it is not quick install. Once you have finished the install you need to go to your device manager and see if the network adapters has either an ';!'; or a ';yellow ?';. If it does then you will have to go to the PCs website on another computer and find your PC in usually the support section of that website. Most of the time they have a drivers and download section for each model. Find the driver for that network adapter and down load it to a thumb drive. Install the driver for the NIC adapter and if it is the right driver then the ';!'; or ';yellow ?'; will be gone in device manager. That should get you to the internet. Once you can get to the internet you can go back to the PCs website and download any an all drivers that may have either a ';!'; or ';yellow ?'; Make sure after you do get all your drivers from the PC';s website, that you go to Microsoft and get ';all'; the updates and service packs. Sometimes if you can't get rid of all of the ';yellow ?s'; in device manager by going to the PCs website, it might be included in a service pack or update from Microsoft update.
