I'm interested in buying a new laptop, Mac or Windows and was told that Windows was better as software for Mac is more expensive! This is for personal use and would like opinions as of what to go for in terms of a Macbook or a laptop around 拢800?Apple Computer Advice!?
If you think like a business man, it all comes down to
TCO: Total Cost of Ownership.
If you knew nothing about computers and didn't have
people around to help you, then the Mac is an obvious
choice. Although it may initially be more expensive,
it is simpler to use, more reliable and requires fewer
complex administrative tasks. Since administration
and your time cost money, the ultimte cost of the
machine is less than its Windows counterpart.
If you have been using Windows for years and everybody
around you has been using Windows, the costs of
doing something different from everyone else may
exceed the gain.
However, in my experience, once people have been
given an opportunity to really try both operating systems,
they end up being Mac users and happily pay the
initial expense.
Recently, with Macs running on Intel hardware, you
can run VMWare and actually run both side by side
AT THE SAME TIME, giving you the best of both
worlds. If an application is available only for Windows,
you simply run it on your virtual machine, otherwise
you run it on your Mac desktop.
However, if you only want to look at initial investment
and are not interested in how you will feel about the
machine in a year, yes, Mac hardware is more
expensive per byte of RAM or CPU clock cycle.
However, after a year, if you want to sell that machine...
Well, Macs do hold their re-sale value far better than
Windows machines.
I've been in the computer industry for 30 years
and (for job reasons) primarily use Linux. I have
access to both Windows and MacOS. Indeed
I have administered more Windows networks
than MacOS networks.
There is no doubt in mind that for most casual
use, MacOS is superior in EVERY way except
compatibility with Windows to Windows.
Interestingly, a lot of companies that had Macs,
initially gave them up to reduce administrative
costs by becoming a single operating system
house. Companies just starting out and
deciding what their I.T. strategy should be
chose Windows because initially it was
cheaper. I have *YET* to see a site do
this where MANAGEMENT had significant
exposure to MacOS.
That is, the managers who make these
decisions have no real exposure to MacOS
so they base their decisions purely on
the size of the marketbase and initial costs.
As Microsoft licensing gets more and more
out of control and they take more and more of
beating for reliability problems, the decision
to go with MacOS or Linux is becoming
more common. That is, although the
Windows market is growing, as a percentage
of the total computer market, it is shrinking.
Most Windows users have worked on Windows
only. Most MacOS users have worked on both
Windows and MacOS. Given exposure to
both, why do you suppose they choose MacOS?Apple Computer Advice!?
well, i'd go for a mac, here is why:
1. when you buy a mac, it comes pre-loaded with all the software you need-itunes, iphoto, iwork, quicktime,
etc. not like windows, xp at least.
2.my mac never crashed, it never froze, never got a virus
some apps do freeze though, but only that app quits and your
system is not affected
3.no drivers hunt everything works with usb and firewire
4.if your considering vista, it has no new features
except that ';flip 3d'; which i woudnt use, why ?
because ';expouse'; is better, while at vista you have to go
into flip and wait till it loades and then scroll through the windows which you can only see one at a time
but in a mac all i do is move the mouse to a hot corner
and all windows are there to see and choose from one-click
4.why am i talking?
go to apple's site :
http://www.apple.com/macosx/tiger/
its a real os, and you get a stylish laptop that you can show-off.
heres the thing i got a mac about 5 months ago it is expensive but the new ones can now run windows on there witch is nice but mac is made for professionals meaning its mainly good for editing things, graphic designs, video, and photos but when it come down to prices u should go with the windows
