Help! I need computer advice! Any thing will help!?

My father was being very kind... So he decided he should take apart my trusty PC and rebuild it using other parts from another computer. Now when he puts the C drive in, it does read... And that was the drive my story was on, I'm an author. Now after using it to go online a few times, it won't turn on, and the C drive is still on my desk. Now I have to use the laptop and I have no story to write... I was on chapter 5, 40-some pages. PLEASE HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!Help! I need computer advice! Any thing will help!?
You may want to seek professional advice. It is something when people are telling you this stuff, but it just might get you confused. Pay for it to get fixed, then use an external hard drive (not expensive) or a flash drive (cheap, as well). Take them with you wherever you go.

First, make sure all the wires are good and in, make sure you wont have to replace anything else. Inside a computer there are tons of wires, so be careful not to mess anything up. Check out some videos on tutorials, there will be something, I am sure you'll find out how to fix it. Good luck.

Also, good luck on your story.Help! I need computer advice! Any thing will help!?
You really don't give alot of info but you can take the drive and install

it in another working machine as slave.Recover your data; story and such.Burn them to cd.Then you can work on your story using the laptop. This is only possible if the drive was not formatted.

This would unvalidate your os with microsoft and you wouldhave to reactivate. You also need all the drivers for the hardware he changed out.Which you would have to do a clean install of the os since windows is setup for hardware that now does not exist.

Recheck all cable connections, jumpers and memory.Use only one

stick ram, video card and hard drive to trouble shoot. keep adding hardware one at a time to find where the problem is.

If you have a spare power supply, try that first.

I would go to a local Best Buy, with the hard drive, and get them to put the contents onto a external hard drive. I wouldn't really use them to repair the PC, since they aren't that reliable.

If you are reinstalling XP, I would go on the motherboard or computer manufacturers website, and see if you need any new SATA or EIDE controllers for your motherboard, and try to install them through a floppy drive, with the C: Drive in the computer.

Also check if he put the jumpers to cable select on the back of the C: Drive, and attach the drive to the last port on the EIDE cable if it is a EIDE Drive.

If it doesn't start up period, then you need to get a new standard ATX power supply unit, 400w PSUs, can cost around $30 to $50, and all ATX PSU, install into both large ATX cases, and smaller microATX.

Unless your Dad had installed a new mother and had to it really should not be giving you any problems.

Have a nice day

If by 'won't turn on' you mean no leds flicking on your console than it might just be a loose connection. Ask you dad to check the SMPS for you. This is the unit in your PC that distributes power to all components like hard drives, mother-board etc...

If you meant Windows won't start up, than it might be a bigger problem like virus since you mention that you used internet. By the way, you should ask your dad if he formatted the machine. Usually ppl do it after a rebuild. If he did that than you lost your data !!

Might still be recoverable but, only with professional help....

to be honest i think you should get a professional (no offense) to rebuild your computer back to how it was before with all of its original parts instead of other computer parts, these other parts may be affecting how your computer is working for instance maybe something doesn't fit properly, i'm not a professional but its my advice, i hope i have helped you!
When you say ';it won't turn on'; do you mean that it will not power on (which would indicate a problem with the electrical connection or power supply) or that it powers on but will not boot (which could be a hardware or OS problem)?
Make sure the drive is in the right mode(master/slave) if there is more than one drive installed.
ask dad to put it back the way it was
