Interesting answers so far!
If you are not going to use the software but may at a later date re-install then you should uninstall now and re-install when you want to use it again.
Why? you get to use the 6gb that is doing nothing and when you do decide to re-use the program it will not defragment any saved game/data as the file will be able to use concurrent space on the drive.
Reloading it at at later date will take up no more space as the first time you loaded it, assuming you choose exactly the same install options.
The only thing you may want to do is run some sort of registry cleaner to ensure that there are no remaining ';bits'; left over after the uninstall. Computer advice please?
well you can leave the setup file on there which will not take up nearly as much space.
you can get a compression tool and compress either just the setup file or the installed program as a whole to save on space.
also large hard drives and cheap nowadays. it might be in your best interest to invest in a bigger hard drive then you wont have to do anything with the program
This is actually a good practice. Generally you will have a better PC if you only have the programs you use regularly installed on your machine. If you notice any decrease in performance after uninstalling or after reinstalling just run a defrag and it will take care of it.
It is my understanding that programmes only actively use large amounts of space when they are running. When inactive the space is considerably smaller. However, the more programmes you have on your computer will inhibit the overall speed.
Have you got the software to re-install it? If so then yes I would remove it. If not leave it alone.
Hopethis helps and have a nice day :-)
It will only take up the same amount of space it occupied in the first place.
If you are not running low on disk space then you might just as well leave it be. The problem with removing software is you then have to manually remove the file folder the software was stored in, the short cuts from the start menu (though not always) and the registry entries (unless you have a registry cleaner).
When removing software the disk space is then considered free for other files to use, so no you won't lose 6 GB of disk space. Eventually you will find that other programs or files load slower because the disk operating system will have fragmented future program installs or file saves. You will need to defragment the disk drive that's all, which can take a very long time on large hard disk. I recommend you start the defrag program before you go shopping on a Saturday morning and with a bit of luck it might (just might) have finished when you get back 3 or 4 hours later.
Take care.
