to look for cheap but good laptops use ebay and ebay express.

the best models taht are really cheap (around $600-700)from my experience/info are:

hp

toshiba

acer

If u find an IBM laptop for a cheap price you'll be going at a great deal..I am looking for a laptop computer for college does anyone have any advice on where to find one?
If price is the main issue then I recommend getting a dell. The new dell inspirons should do the job for you. Right now you can get a pretty good deal on them and for $1290 or so you can get.

Intel Core 2 Duo 2.0ghz 4mb FSB

2GB RAM

160GB HDD

Nvidia 8600m GT 256mb GPU

Bluetooth/Wifi AG

2MP Webcam and Microphone

CD/DVD Burner

This is the best machine in terms of performance to price in my opinion. So it should be great for almost any sort of college work and even intensive gaming.
Have to give a budget figure. Cheap means different things. The Dell would be a good choice. the E1520 with a core 2 duo goes for around a $1000 and the E 1501 with a turion X 2 for under 700 would be two good choices. Also shop at Best Buy and circuit City, HP and Toshiba are good brands often on sale and you can get a feel for what you like.

Most important is the CPU. You will need about 2GBs of RAM for Vista. If you play games you will need a dedicated graphic card.
Well you need to post what specs you need in a computer for the college, some require higher graphics then others. New cheap laptop watch http://bensbargains.net/index.php there are decent deals at least weekly if not monthly. For a used laptop, only if you are good with them, checkout ebay. Personally I would say go with one with upgradable graphics, just incase you need to up the graphics. Ram is really cheap for the newer notebooks and to keep the system running well I would say to get a cooling pad for the notebook, www.nexfan.com has some at decent prices. I hope something in this ramble helps.
