I spend most of my day on my computer doing college work. website design, programming and general messing about. Any advice is appreiciated.Any advice to a computer addict that lacks motivation for exercise activities?
Hi! Ideally, from what I have found, the best way to get motivated, and keep motivated when it comes to exercise is to firstly, find a form of exercise you like doing and secondly, build in exercise into your daily life. For me, I love Davina McCall's power of 3 workout DVD (please don't cringe! haha, its great, I don't have to leave the house or anything for it). And as a second option I walk everywhere (not to mention, I'm too cheap for public transport and don't drive) so I walk to the local shops, I'm fortunate that I have a shopping presinct about 2 miles away and Asda 1 mile away - if you don't have this option your'e a bit more scuppered! Try doing at least 20 minutes brisk walked say, three times a week for a start - and gradually increase it, from what I recall you're meant to do 20 minutes three times a week to maintain your fitness, but if you don't have any, its probably a good place to start, not meaning to be assumptive or rude. To lose fat you don't actually need to do really hard exercise, your heart beat doesn't want to be THAT high. I find runners world website really useful for health/exercise info - and running info for that matter - take a look, its something like www.runnersworld.co.uk - not too difficult to fathom. I reckon the hardest part is prising yourself from your computer, i get a bit like that and some days, not so bad currently though. It helps when it is nice weather out. My usual plan is to force myself and once you get into a kind of rythem - or routine I suppose, its gets a bit easier. But you do have to take that first step, just keep in mind it doesn't have to be an Earth shattering one. Starting to waffle now...Any advice to a computer addict that lacks motivation for exercise activities?
Use a pedal generator to power your PC ;)
You can do the 'lazy man option' like me and have a pair of dumbells in your room, along with an ab-shaper (which I admit I still don't use enough)
Plus we got some exercise machine in the garage now.. the point I'm making is that going to the gym/jogging etc is too much effort, and money.
But if you got the equipment you need right in front of you (without hardly having to get off your a**), there becomes some motivation to actually use it!!
Plus women love a guy who works out, even if he is an ugly b******...
:D
First, you should determine how much exercise you need. If you are overweight, then you'll obviously need more exercise than if you're at a healthy weight or in shape. If it's the latter, a 20 - 30 minute walk or jog a day could be sufficient enough as exercise to keep in shape and stay healthy. If it's the former, you're going to have to gradually ween yourself away from the computer; you can start by doing exercise 10 minutes a day, and then adding 5 - 10 minutes each day as you go along. The best motivation is within yourself, but if you do make time for it, as time goes on exercising will become easier and less of a chore.
There is a massage cushion that fits onto your chair, it works on either whole back and shoulders or lower back. It may not be excercise but at least it could ease those aching muscles fom being hunched over a computer all day. It just plugs in and you choose your setting. It works for 30 minutes and switches itself off. You can use it again later if you wish. I got one from my kids for my birthday and it is a life saver.
No hard feeling but look at your self in the mirror and you will find the motivation.
Nobody can tell you what to do exept your self.
Regards................
Get a running machine and hook it up to your computer so that you can only power the PC by running!
Dont you feel fat? dont you stress at running up stairs?- can you run up stairs?
dont you worry about meeting any girlfriends? going out?
My advice is make it a rule. Make youself go to the gym/run/play football or whatever, and accept at first you may not enjoy it, but from my experience whe you do something you werent able to do- like run up 5 flights of stairs without stopping, you feel so so pleased that you can motivate yourself to keep going.
either that or turn off the computer. You'll end up like the male version of the cat woman.
